The original location of ALADDIN ANIMAL HOSPITALS opened in October, 1983, in the far west end of Houston, Texas. The practice was put up for sale in early 1985. Dr. Price, the Practice Director/Medicine of ALADDIN ANIMAL HOSPITALS, first learned of the practice being for sale August 19. 1985. She and her husband looked the practice over the next day, put a contract on it 24 hours later, and bought the hospital the following Tuesday, August 26, 1985. Whew!! Blink and you missed it!! Anyway...that is where the name ALADDIN comes from.
Upon taking over the practice, Dr. Price immediately instituted sweeping changes to increase the quality of care. To enhance client convenience, the hospital’s hours were changed to stay open through the lunch hour, and closing time was pushed back to 7 p.m. Additional services, such as boarding, bathing and dipping, and day patient drop-offs were offered (believe it or not, those services were NOT available in most veterinary hospitals in 1985!) The patient medical records were computerized, and the computer was put to work tracking vaccine reminders and patient follow-ups. Finally, the clients and patients of Aladdin started finding out how much FUN it can be coming to a hospital where the doctor and staff CARE!! Intensive client education, common-sense preventive medicine, and aggressively treating patient illnesses became the norm for ALADDIN clients and pets. This unabashed passion for excellence struck a nerve in the pet-owning community--the practice started growing like a weed! In the spring of 1990, the Prices opened the first hospital to “spin off” from the growth of the original ALADDIN. ALADDIN ANIMAL CLINIC II enjoyed immediate and rapid growth. Unfortunately, it could not adequately relieve the strain put on the physical plant at the original ALADDIN; major changes were in order by late 1991, or the hospital might simply burst at the seams with such a huge caseload! The decision was made to open a third location. The new location, named ALADDIN ANIMAL CLINIC SOUTH, would become the Main Hospital for the ALADDIN “family,” and would offer more specialized care in internal medicine, surgery, and behavioral counseling, as well as conventional small animal care. ALADDIN ANIMAL CLINIC SOUTH opened for business October 17, 1991, with Dr. Price as Hospital Manager/Primary Care Provider. The original ALADDIN was renamed ALADDIN ANIMAL CLINIC NORTH. The practice was effectively split between the two locations, thereby relieving the congestion and crowding at ALADDIN-NORTH, and ensuring continued excellence in customer service. In the fall of 1994, Dr. Price’s husband, an airline pilot, was transferred to the Dallas area. At first, plans were simply to sell the two satellite hospitals (ALADDIN II and ALADDIN-NORTH) so that the managerial responsibilities could be reduced to a level where they could be effectively handled by Dr. Price solo. ALADDIN-NORTH was sold September of 1994; ALADDIN II sold in May, 1995. However, while visiting Dallas/Ft. Worth one weekend in the fall of 1995, the beautiful area of Flower Mound was discovered. Plans were made and put into motion to build a free-standing hospital, sell the remaining hospital in Houston, and completely relocate to the DFW area. ALADDIN-SOUTH was sold September 30, 1996; the move to the DFW area was completed October 13, 1996. In August of 1996, a commercial lot was purchased in Flower Mound at the corner of Yucca and Cross Timbers. After 7 months of design and wading through red-tape with the Town of Flower Mound, ground breaking finally took place of May 2, 1997. The foundation was poured on June 3, 1997 (written into the slab in the kennel ward), and construction proceeded through the summer of 1997. ALADDIN ANIMAL HOSPITAL OF FLOWER MOUND opened for business September 2, 1997. At this time (February 2003), ALADDIN ANIMAL HOSPITAL provides loving, meticulous care for more than five thousand patients. Future plans include expanding the physical plant to 5000 feet, and setting up a veterinary externship program with the Texas A & M Veterinary Medical Center. Come join the fun! |
